Wild Tales Inspires Young Readers
Gladys Porter Zoo Hosts Annual Literacy Event

The Gladys Porter Zoo is excited to invite the public to Wild Tales, presented by Chick-fil-A. This fun, family-friendly event promotes literacy and will be held on November 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wild Tales will feature book readings by guest storytellers and authors, animal presentations, arts and crafts, keeper chats, face painting, free book giveaways (while supplies last) and more!

Guests who attend Wild Tales can listen to live readings of Tina the Tortoise-Tina la Tortuga bilingual book. The book will be read by retired educator, author and poet Sandra Cavazos Ayala. Other special guests will include Stephanie Tovar, author of Make Way for Madison: The Seven Summits, Tessie Ledesma, author of Polly the Possum, and the enthusiastic storyteller and librarian, Melanie Smith.

“We are thrilled to offer families a day of adventure and learning at the Zoo,” said Sergio Garcia, Curator of Education. “One day a year, admission is significantly discounted during Wild Tales when everyone can enjoy story time, meet wonderful authors, meet the Zoo’s animal ambassadors, participate in a puppet show, and even take home a free book of their very own.  It’s the perfect opportunity to create memories, inspire young readers, and experience the Zoo in a whole new way. Don’t miss out on Wild Tales at the Zoo!”

Additionally, the Zoo will be offering the discounted school rate to visitors on this day. The admission price to the Zoo will be $6.00 for students from elementary through high school and $7 for adults. Wild Tales is a free event with the purchase of Zoo admission or Zoo membership.

Wild Tales was made possible thanks to its generous sponsors, Chick-fil-A, Brownsville Public Utilities Board, H-E-B Helping Here, Whataburger, the City of Brownsville and Visit Brownsville.
