Virtual Kids Appreciation Day
Gladys Porter Zoo will celebrate National Kids Day by hosting the 17th Annual Kids Appreciation Day. National Kids Day is a day set aside each year to celebrate and honor America’s children by spending meaningful time with them. In the past, during Kids Appreciation Day, children would have the opportunity to make a passport that would take them on an adventure throughout the Zoo where they would be able to visit activity stations with various themes and participate in raffles.
However, this year, we will be hosting the event virtually due to our current situation and to maintain the safety of our employees and the public. Although we planned to for the event will be livestreamed via our Facebook and YouTube pages on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties, the Kids Appreciation Day Virtual event will be posted at a later time than previously scheduled. Please follow our Facebook page and in you follow settings, turn on notifications or subscribe to our YouTube channel and turn on notifications so that you don’t miss when we go live. We are so sorry for the inconvenience!
During our virtual Kids Appreciation Day, the Zoo will spotlight various themes including health and wellness, bike safety, animal conservation and enrichment, and a craft!
Although it is a virtual event, we are also incorporating a drive-thru component where backpacks filled with school supplies will be given to the first 1,500 children. The drive-thru event will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. or while supplies last. Every child who picks up a backpack will also receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win additional prizes during the virtual event on Saturday. Children will also have an opportunity to win a raffle prize on the day of the drive thru. It will be a day filled with fun, and it’s a perfect way for Valley residents to spend quality time with their children while simultaneously preparing for the upcoming school year.
A special thanks to our presenting sponsor, H-E-B. We would also like to thank Brownsville Public Utilities Board and the City of Brownsville, and last but not least, our media sponsors, Digital 101.5 and KVEO.
At the drive-thru event each vehicle will have the opportunity to spin to win a door prize. Thanks to Brownsville PUB’s generous donation we were able to purchase over 70 door prizes. Limit one spin per vehicle, while supplies last.
